This magazine, published in 1968 (immediately after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.) is called “Martin Luther King, Jr. His Dream Marches On.” The magazine, by teaching Dr. King’s philosophy, sought to prevent further rioting that exploded immediately after his death. The publisher notes Dr. King once said, “In the spirit of the darkness of this hour, we must not despair; we must not become bitter; we must not lose faith in our white brothers.” How ironical those words seem now. To all Americans of good faith, perhaps the words of Jawaharal Nehru, spoken in the grief-stricken aftermath of the assassination of Gandhi, can best be used to eulogize Dr. Martin Luther King: “The greatest prayer that we can offer is to take a pledge to dedicate ourselves…to the cause for which this great man lived and for which he died.”
