1966 VA. PUBLIC SCHOOLS DESEGREGATION PLAN

Notice of School Desegregation Plan under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

This 3 page (front and back) document was sent home with all students in the Alexandria, Virginia public school system in 1966.

The notice was to inform parents about the desegregation of Alexandria schools.  It addresses the Desegregation Plan In Effect, Non-Racial Attendance Zones, Transfer to School in Another Zone, Notification of Assignment, Some Facts for Parent Information and a city map with school boundaries.

This document is in very good condition.  There are staple holes in the upper left-hand corner of the pages and two creases on each page where it was folded to fit into an envelope.  The document itself is not dated, but within the document it states “…On May 16, 1966…will be sent a letter…”.
